I’ve heard some new “pre-releases” off the upcoming Metallica album and they sound great! The awful and annoying tin can has been replace by a tight, crisp and full snare drum on Lars’ set. What a relief. Plus the music is excellent. Real Metallica. I can’t wait for the release in September. (22nd?) Of course, I won’t share it with you here for obvious reasons but I will report more. New producer (for Metallica) Rick Rubin has whipped them back into shape. Who was that last guy? Bob Rock? (just call me Gregg Internet) He was on some kind of second childhood kick where he butted in to play bass on most of the tunes and then let that awful snare drum sound out of the studio. Metallica should sue him and leave their fans alone. We all know that file-sharing only turns into sales. Right?
The entity that’s ruined the record business isn’t peer to peer it’s Amazon.com who lets everyone sell their used CDs online. Why buy a new CD when you can get the same quality sound from an old CD? Who cares about the tattered cover art? I buy a CD, rip it to my computer, throw the CD up in the attic where I’ll never see it again and I go out on the Internet and get a nice new shiny digital piece of cover art. Metallica should sue Amazon.com and Bob Rock. They did more damage to Metallica than any file-sharing fan ever did.
Who is Alvin really? Why is he so lazy when it comes to posting? Maybe sometimes he doesn’t want to post about music only. He says he knows all kinds of stuff about music. Maybe he really doesn’t. Maybe he just owns a lot of music but can’t tell you the difference between post-punk and pre-industrial. What are the finer points of an atypical electronic Downtempo compared to a true Trip-Hop classic? Maybe he doesn’t have a clue. Or, maybe sometimes he would rather just post about Dr. Drew and Ass-holics Anonymous.
Maybe his name isn’t really even Alvin. Maybe it’s a more common name like Bob or Jeff. Stay tuned… All will soon be revealed. Maybe not all… Maybe not soon… Maybe.
