You can call me Alvin. I am a compulsive music collector. Always looking for something new and something different. I do have a nostalgic twinge on occasion. I can wax nostalgic from last week or back to 1975. I want to share what I find with you. If you like what I tell you about you should go out and buy it. Usually I’ll put a link to buy with the post. If I know that the music is available on eMusic I’ll link to it there.
I have been a musician all of my life. Classically trained in the ’70s. Punked out in the ’80s. I’ve played jazz, rock, punk, classical and everything in between. I’ve screamed bad poetry into a microphone and played the smoothest jazz basslines. Now in the 21st century I don’t need a band. I occasionally compose “Electronic Industrial Multi-Genre” things on a new Mac and a 17 year old MIDI keyboard. I love all music with a few exceptions, and even then I can step back and appreciate the musicianship even if it’s a style I can barely tolerate.
So with this MP3 Blog I hope to share my findings with whoever wants to listen. I also want to help promote new independent music and musicians by helping to create and spread a buzz that might not be available otherwise to the players and artists in the “indie” scene.
I’ve thought about what my philosophy should be and it will surely change over time… I don’t want this to be the same old MP3 Blog. BUT, that’s sort of the purpose. To spread the word, spread the buzz, jump on the bandwagon (pun) promote what needs promoting (in my opinion). So what if I didn’t find it first? I still like it and I want you to hear it too. Sometimes you may find the same content here as you find on other music blogs that’s part of the mechanism. That’s one way I find out about and purchase new listening material. Over time, I’ll share with you all the ways I find good music, new and old.
Of course, as you get to know me, if you hear something you know I’ll like, let me know!

“And we listen to the sea
And look at the sky in a poetic kind of way
What you call it
When you look at the sky in a poetic kind of way
You know when you grope for luna”
Black Francis, 1989
